Queer Base – the queer youth centre in Tempelhof-Schöneberg

Queer Base is the queer youth centre in Tempelhof-Schöneberg. All queer young people and their friends between the ages of 12-27 are welcome!

About Queer Base

You can drop by Queer Base for free and without prior registration. The most important thing is that we are a place for queer young people and their friends. It doesn’t matter whether you are proudly out, not yet sure or coming along as support.

Get involved

At Queer Base, there are mostly open meetings, but we also hold cool events, have topic-specific groups and offer advice.

You can organize your time with us however you like. Do you have ideas, wishes and dreams that you would like to realize? A queer cooking group? Karaoke evenings? Discussion groups on queer dating, coming out or transitioning? A place to crochet or dance with your queer friends? We’d like to help – write to us or drop by and tell us what you need!

If you have any issues or questions, we also offer advice and support. We offer advice on queer topics and questions about finding your identity, such as gender, coming out or transitioning. If you would like to make an appointment for advice, please contact Julian via email, WhatsApp, Signal or send us a direct message on Instagram. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible. You can also simply drop by during our opening hours and make an appointment.

The Queer Base Team

We are a queer team of 3 people. Luise and Julian are there for you in the open meeting to make Queer Base a safer space. Amelia does the public relations work in the background. We look forward to getting to know you!

Services

We have a diverse range of regular and intermittent events. You can find a brief overview here, but be sure to check our calendar to keep up to date.

Open meeting

Queer Base has open youth meetings on Thursdays from 4-7pm and Fridays from 3:30-5:30pm.

The open meeting is for all queer young people and friends between the ages of 12 and 27. You can simply drop by if you want to chill out with other queer young people or your friends. We have games, creative activities, a Nintendo Switch, craft supplies, the opportunity to cook, table football, open space, Lego, a garden and lots of time to chat. Here you can decide for yourself what you want to do. We can also help you start your own projects – the possibilities are (almost) limitless!

Over-18s FLINTA* Group

There is a queer FLINTA* group at Queer Base. It meets on Fridays from 17:30-19. The group is open to all queer FLINTA*people between the ages of 18-27.

Wondering what FLINTA* means? FLINTA* is a German abbreviation and stands for women, lesbians and people who are inter*, non-binary, trans* and/or agender, as well as *other diverse gender identities. This includes not only female-read people, but also people who are (more) male or who can be read as (more) male, such as trans* men, inter* men or male-presenting non-binary people.

Here you can get to know each other, exchange ideas and spend time together. It is an open group, so you are always welcome to join. The FLINTA* group is very independent and is co-determined by you. That’s why we currently agree on a topic or activity every week that we will work on together. You can find the next topics in the Dates section!

Café

Every 1st Sunday of the month, we invite you to a cozy café in the afternoon together with the haus of fun in Marienfelde. Just come along, relax and have a good time together.

Address: haus of fun, Tirschenreuther Ring 67, 12279 Berlin

Intermittent Services

During the school vacations, we do not offer regular activities as usual, but instead offer other open activities. We also offer regular workshops or excursions. So be sure to check our calendar for all the important information.

Come by!

Would you like to come by? Here’s how to find Queer Base:

The nearest subway station is U Kaiserin-Augusta-Straße (U6). From there it’s a 5-10 minute walk to Queer Base. You will recognize us by our banner on the fence. You may have to open a bolt at the garden gate and then walk through it into the garden. You will find Queer Base behind the first door on the left, it is red and there is a lamp above it with the house number “11b” on it. During opening hours, the door should be open and a display in front of it. Come in and then down the stairs – there we are!

Accessibility

Unfortunately, XY is not fully accessible. To help you prepare, we’ve listed the barriers you might encounter here. Feel free to contact us in advance if you need any specific support. We’ll do our best to see how we can assist you!

Barriers to entry

Zu den Räumen von Queer Base kannst du durch zwei Eingänge reinkommen.

Entrance 1: The address of this entrance is Friedrich-Franz-Straße 11b. To get in you have to open a garden gate, which is sometimes locked with a bolt. This bolt is about 1.40m high. The path behind it consists of small cobblestones and leads to a door that is difficult to open with one hand. Behind the door are 6 steps down with a handrail on the left side. Then you can go left or right. On the left is a small iron threshold on the ground and 2 steps down with a handrail on the right. On the right, there are 3 steps down and a handrail on both sides, with a small iron threshold at the bottom. Then there are another 3 steps down with a handrail on the left.

Entrance 2: The address of the entrance is Kaiserin-Augusta-Straße 22. This entrance has a 5cm high threshold, and apart from this is step-free. If you want to use this entrance, please let us know and we can unlock the door for you. At this entrance you have to go down a ramp made of large cobblestones. The gradient is about 19%. Then you have to go through 2 doors, both of which are difficult to open on your own. The narrower of the two doors is 85cm wide. Behind it is another ramp with a gradient of about 7-10%. The floor is made of linoleum and covered with several anti-slip strips.

Barriers in the rooms

The floor at Queer Base is made of linoleum, only one room has a carpeted floor. The highest threshold in the rooms is 3 cm high. However, the rooms at Queer Base are divided into two halves by steps in the middle. The left side, with the craft room and the kitchen, can only be reached via stairs. The right-hand side, with the toilets and the lounge, can be reached without steps via entrance 2.

Toilets

Unfortunately, there are no accessible toilets at Queer Base. You can use the accessible toilets in the adjacent church. These are about 100m away.

Emergency exits

All emergency exits have barriers. To use the emergency exits in an emergency, you must be able to climb stairs and climb onto a chair.

Sensory access

Next to Queer Base is a church whose bells ring at midday and 6 pm. A ventilation system can be heard in the toilet. If you need some peace and quiet you can retreat to a free room, just let us know if you need this.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are allowed at Queer Base.

Allergies and intolerances

Please let us know if you have any allergies or intolerances. We will of course (as far as we can) take them into consideration.

Language

At Queer Base we mostly speak German. However, we can also speak English or simple language.

Dates

There’s a lot going on at Queer Base – in addition to weekly open meetings, there are sometimes workshops or excursions. Sometimes dates change too. You can always find the latest information here!
